MouseExtender is a handy application that adds extra functionality to your mouse. It is basically an application launcher that, unlike other apps of the kind, can be started with the middle mouse button. Aimed at giving you quick access to your favorite apps, Mouse Extender uses a nice, compact window, where you can add shortcuts to applications, files, folders, and even links to your favorite websites. Using a tool like this, you no longer need to go through endless folder structures or search for a program on a messy desktop. Instead, simply by pressing the middle mouse button or F4, you invoke the application and see shortcuts for the programs of your choice.
Adding shortcuts to the program is extremely easy; it can be done either by dragging and dropping items to the main window, or via the context menu item 'Add' button. Right-clicking on a shortcut will allow you to customize it: you can edit its location, change its icon, write a comment, and even add a customized text for the tooltip. Beside shortcuts, you can create tabs, where you can further organize your shortcuts in the way you find most convenient.
By default, Mouse Extender displays a couple of buttons for system functions like Restart, Shut down, and Hibernate, and an additional button for the Control Panel. For any of the system functions there is a sliding bar for you to set the time you want the app to carry out one of these actions at. You can optionally disable these buttons from the program settings. From there, you can also set MouseExtender to start with Windows, specify the amount of icons displayed in a row, and change the mouse button configuration.
